I just recently cleaned through my clothes and decided to get rid of everything that I couldn't remember the last time wearing. Since this is more about getting rid of stuff than money, I'm saying everything is $8 a piece shipped US, $10 shipped elsewhere, and I'm open to negotiating. no pets, non-smoking, and I will wash everything before sending it. If you have any questions or want better pictures of something, just ask. :)

I'm cleaning through my flist. Basically, I'm doing this by searching everyone's names in my gmail and if I don't see anything from 2010, removing. If you get cut and want to be added back on, I'll have no problem re-adding you. I just don't use this for fandom much anymore, and I feel kind of weird posting tons of real-life-y stuff for people who only care about fandom stuff. Or something like that.

So basically, if you get cut and want to be added back, just say so. The cuts really aren't anything personal. I just need to simplify.

Likewise, if you want to cut me from your flist, I won't be offended.

Snagged from half my flist:

If you had me alone, locked up in your house for twenty-four hours and I had to do whatever you wanted me to*, what would you have me do?

Thirty Days of Giving

Day 05 → Your favourite quote

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."
--Ghandi

Kind of cliche, but it's what I've been trying to center my life around more than anything lately. I get frustrated with a lot of people in the Harding world, and I try to keep this at the front of my mind instead of getting angry about things.

Day 06 → Whatever tickles your fancy

I've started knitting!

HERE HAVE A LOOK AT MY MAD KNITTING SKILLZZ.

I have a hard time remembering to update this thing, so I figured this would help me get in the groove. It's a "Thirty Days of Giving" meme that's been going around LJ. I'm on Day 4 over there, so I'll catch up over here and then start going one a day tomorrow.

Day 01 → Your favourite song

How about just the one I'm addicted to right now. I'll never be able to pick one favorite.

The jazzy soulfulness of it reminds me SO MUCH of True Blood. I'm hoping it makes an appearance next season.

Day 02 → Your favourite movie

Again, it will be impossible for me to pick a favorite, so we're just going to go with my first favorite.

"All girls are princesses. Didn't your father ever tell you that? Didn't he?"

I still cry every time I was this movie. It's so beautiful. I think every girl of every age should watch it at least once a year.

Day 03 → Your favourite television program

Pushing Daisies. Always always always and forever. ♥

"It's a miracle bird! It's swimming in miracles, not disease!"

Day 04 → Your favourite book

I've said it before and I'll say it again. EVERYBODY needs to read this book. It's written less like an autobiography and more like a love letter to all women. I've got a copy of it that I wrote in and then started passing around. My wonderful Brit Lit teacher, Heather, and Sarah have all had their turn scribbling in it, and my mom has it now. It's amazing. I'm toying around with the idea of sending the marked up copy to Crystal Renn so she can see how much she's appreciated for speaking out on body confidence at all sizes (she goes a lot into how she knows a size 12 isn't fat and how she hates being the token "Plus Size" girl because she knows 12 isn't a plus size, but that it's all about taking small steps to a higher goal.)

So I got a menstrual cup a few weeks ago and several people were interested, so I figrued I'd do a follow-up post with how things went.

Let's start this off by saying that I've always been one of those weird girls who didn't hate her period. I mean, it's not my favorite thing in the world, and the first day is hell, but I really don't mind it that much. I think this is because when I was younger and my mom was preparing me for all the horrors of puberty she told me pretty often that even though my period might seem scary and gross that it was a reminder that I am female and that was something to be very proud of.

this will probably get tmi )

And that's that! I can't think of any negatives about it. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Me: Hastings book department, this is Becca. How may I help you?
Man: Becca... you're the pretty one who works back there, right?
Me: Um, I guess so.
Man: Well, I just got through with a divorce, so pardon me if I flirt a little.
Me: What book are you looking for today?

Redneck: Ma'am, I was wondering if you have the latest issue of Hawgs Illustrated on hand.
Me: *looks it up* Sir, it says here that it comes out of the 17th and today is the 16th. We'll probably have it out tomorrow.
Redneck: Well ma'am, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.
Me: Um, what?
Redneck: Is there anyway you could see if you have any in the back?
Me: Um, I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to do that.
Redneck: *walks off mumbling something about "shitty service"*

Teenage Boy: *rubbing the side of his neck* "God, I hate those f***ing vampires."

Redneck wearing a Confederate flag hat with 'REBEL' on it and a Last Supper t-shirt: Ma'am, could you show me where your books on witchcraft are?

Pre-Teen Girl: Do you know who Kris Allen is? Kris Allen won American Idol. And you know what? Kris Allen is from Arkansas! And he's a Christian. Kris Allen is going to be a preacher and I think that because he's famous that it's going to be all because of Kris Allen that the whole world finally comes to Jesus! People listen to famous people you know.

Oh, Hastings. You do bring delight into my life.

Dear Men Who Shop at Hastings,

If you catch a glimpse of something on my arm while I'm scanning your stuff and want to know if it's a tattoo, it is NOT OKAY to grab my arm and wrench it up to your face. That hurts. Just do what the women do and ask, okay?

Love, Me.

So, the first week of school is over. You guys, this just might be the best semester ever. I love all my teachers and all my classes and there are people I know in almost all my classes, and it's wonderful wonderful wonderful.

In other news, I quit my job at the library! They called me over again to discuss my modesty (this makes four times in one month) and gave me all this stuff about how this was a serious issue and since since I'm a student worker I should be setting the standard for the rest of the students and I said, "Well, then. I guess that means I'm not a student worker anymore," and walked out.

And I have Brit Lit after work, so I got to class and told Heather and Adria and Joey about it, and Heather said she was jealous because she'd always wanted to walk out on a job. And then class started, and we were discussing selections from the Ancrene Wisse and it was going on about modesty and how women should avert their eyes and not tempt men, and saying how women are like pits of temptation that men fall into (check that metaphor.) And Dr. Eddleman was all going on about how ridiculous the whole thing was and Heather was poking me in the back with her pen and whispering, "That's you!" and it made me laugh.

Spontaneously last night, Heather and I decided to buy DiGiorno pizzas and rent a movie and have a little Suite movie night. But then we got back to the apartment and Adria and Joey already had plans for the night so Heather and I spontaneously decided to go see Time Traveler's Wife, and it turns out my 14-year-old sister and her BFF were there, so when the movie was over, we ended up taking them to get pizza.

my thoughts on the movie )

YOU GUYS. FIVE DAYS UNTIL D*CON.

I'm working today on getting ahead on my homework. I'm going to try to have everything that needs to be done through next Tuesday turned in by this Thursday so I don't have anything to worry about while I'm there.

D*CON D*CON D*CON!!!!!!!

I was supposed to work today from 12-9 but one of my co-workers was like, "Hey, I have no hours next week, do you mind if I take you Sunday ones?" Since I have a billion (read: 29) hours this week, I was like, "Sure!" Then when all was said and done I realized I'd just waved good by to $56 on the paycheck I'd be getting right before D*Con.

BUT lalalalala I've had nothing to do aaaaaaaaaaaaallll day. I was going to start getting my stuff sorted through for moving into the dorm on Thrusday (!!!!!!) but blah. I slept and went grocery shopping and talked to my parents about getting an iPhone.

On the topic of grocery shopping, OMG I FOUND THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER FOR $2 AT WAL-MART TODAY.

IT CUTS YOUR PB&J SAMMICHES INTO DINOSAURS! Did you know there are actually two dinosaurs living in your sammich? BECAUSE THERE TOTALLY ARE. AND THEY ARE AWESOME.

more pics because i'm bored. AND AWESOME! )

So yes. For dinner tonight I am eating a dinosaur sammich and goldfish crackers. I am wholly and unashamedly 5 years old.

And speaking of talking to parentals about getting an iPhone IT'S HAPPENING IN JANUARY. I just have to pay them back the extra $30/month it adds to our plan. [personal profile] ninamazing got one and then my mom got one and now [personal profile] coffeesuperhero is getting one AND NOW I WANT ONE. Buuuuuut I have to wait until January because that's when my next phone upgrade is.

Uuuumm, there was something else kind of important I was going to write about, but the dinosaurs kind of chased it from my mind...

Yes, I know. I am five years old.

The summer is almost over. This time next week I'll be in the dorm with Adria and Joey waiting for Heather to arrive and make our suite family complete. I miss those girls so effing much.

Despite having accomplished almost nothing I wanted to do this summer, I've been happy. Looking back on it, I'm not really sure what I spent all my time and money on, but I've felt quiet and lovely and peaceful all summer and that's definitely a step up from the winter and spring.

I've liked having an apartment and working, being wholly responsible for myself and only myself.

I also haven't been hurting nearly as much. I've had relatively few migraines, my period cramps haven't been bad at all, and my hips and knees have rarely bothered me, despite Hastings keeping me on my feet for hours at a time. I just realized this today; the absence of pain is much less noticeable than the presence of it, I guess. This is a huge deal for me, though. I can't remember the last time I was able to go through a day without having to take some kind of pain killer for something, and this summer, I've taken less than 48 excedrin (I know this because of how many bottles I've gone through, not because I count them obsessively or anything.) That's amazing, you guys, especially seeing as how at the beginning of the year, I was hurting so much and so often that I was considering surgery on my legs.

I'm not sure what this means, if it has to do with stress levels or the amount of sleep I'm getting or what, but it's good and I want it to last forever.

At Hastings tonight, this lady came through my line, stared at me for long enough that I started feeling awkward, and then asked, "Are you related to Mildred Christmas?"

"She's my great-grandmother."

"I thought so. I'm from Brownsville, TN and went to church with her my whole life, and I used to play with her grandkids -- your mom and aunt and uncles, I'm guessing -- whenever they were in town. You look uncannily like Lisa, and I just had to ask."

"Yep, Lisa's my mom."

I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING. THIS LADY KNEW WHO I WAS BECAUSE I LOOKED LIKE SOME GIRL SHE PLAYED WITH GROWING UP WHAT IN THE WORLD.

I wasn't sure whether to be completely creeped out or just think, "Well, it's a small, small world." I mean, Great-grandmother was the type to be like, "Look at these pictures of my beatiful family!" so maybe she's seen pictures of me? Idk. It was still an odd experience.

Aside from that, today has pretty much been an "I want to kill everyone and everything" kind of day. Sucky day at the library, sucky day at Hastings, just sucky sucky sucky.

When I got off, I went to grab the last two discs of True Blood, but they were gone. So I grabbed the Torchwood: Children of Earth and the penultimate (heck yeah I just used that word!) disc of Dollhouse.

Also, some guy came through my line tonight renting the disc of Battlestar Galactica 4.5 that has Kara and Lee on it (not that picture, but that's who they are for those who don't watch the show) and I kind of got distracted staring at it and he was like, "Uuuuuuh, can I rent that?" And I was like, "What? Oh. Yeah. Sorry. Um, long day."

So, I downloaded the iJournal client to actually help me update my dreamwidth account some. A lot of what I post on LJ, I wouldn't mind having over there, I just forget to crosspost. But this lets me post entries both places with just a couple of extra clicks, so we'll see how this goes. I've been using xJournal before now, and really loved it. This seems to have all the same features, except it doesn't automatically load my tags to where I can just click the ones I want to use. I'll have to actually type them all in. Or post the entry and edit them through LJ and DW, maybe? Also, it doesn't automatically change the song in iTunes when a track ends and goes on to the next one. I have to tell it to grab the song again.

You know, the past few days I've been craving stuff like crazy and eating it all and then going to bed feeling sick, but now I'm starving and nothing sounds good. Body, why can't you just be normal?

I don't have to work at Hastings today, tomorrow, or Tuesday, so it will be nice to just chill for a few nights. I'm predicting renting all the rest of True Blood and maybe buying S2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer since I finally got around to finishing S1 last night and they're on sale for $20 at Hastings right now. LOL, I love how even on days I'm not working there, I'm usually up there for something. I love that place a little too much.

So, yesterday I worked an 8-hour shift in books. I really like doing books. I go in and Des has a list of the things that need to be done that day, and I get them done in my own sweet time. Working register there's always someone telling me what to do RIGHT NOW OMG and it's just blah. I am so not a team player.

Anyway, yesterday there were these two girls, who couldn't have been older than 10, who kept walking all over the place and talking loudly and it was pretty hilarious. They weren't trying to be funny, but I kept overhearing them and cracking up. One of them was clearly in charge of the whole friendship and called the other one Emo. Not like, "You're so emo!" but like, "OMG, Emo, get your butt over here and look at this!"

At one point, the girl called Emo pointed out a Twilight display and Little Miss Bossy, said, "Puh-leeze. I am so over Twilight. All I care about anymore is True Blood!" and she said True Blood in this little sing-songy voice and I almost died. Also, I think she uses True Blood as slang for cool because she kept picking things up and saying, "Oh my god, that is like, so True Blood!"

Also, LOL this girl was, like, 10. I'm wondering if she's actually seen True Blood (Because she must be talking about the show, right? The books aren't called True Blood.) I mean, props to her if mommy lets her watch it, but idk.

Nothing to do today! Except go home and do laundry. But that doesn't really count, because I'll probably just lounge around the house and actually get around to finishing Watchmen.

So, as you may or may not know, I got a job at Hastings a few weeks ago. This is my first Real Job (until now I've made my living babysitting and having a couple of student worker jobs on campus) and I'm absolutely loving it! The people I work with are fantastic and the customers are (for the most part) enjoyable and I'm in heaven surrounded my so many books and movies and CDs. I thought I'd post with some of the things that have made me absolutely fall in love with my job.

1) Some lady came in and did a HUGE EPIC buy-back (Hastings buys and sells used books/movies/music for those of you who aren't lucky enough to have one in your life.) One of the books she was selling to us was Watchmen, which I've been wanting to read (haven't seen the movie), but it's not at our libraries and it costs $20 and I'm not spending that much on something I've never read. Anywho, it was all processed and ready to be sold when I got off, and the used price was $9.99 so I decided to grab it. My discount made it $7.50. BAM.

2) A couple came through my register buying ALL 9 SEASONS of The X-Files. Not gonna lie, I almost died from joy overload right there.

3) My Peter Pan movie collection in now complete! All that was missing was Finding Neverland, and I found a cheap, used copy of that. I have a mad obsession with Peter Pan for anyone who doesn't know. I own a cheap paperback of the book that I actually read, a gorgeous 100th anniversary edition that I don't allow myself to actually touch, the Disney movie, the new version with Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook (my mom calls this version "Peter Pan for Grown-ups"), the 1960 NBC Televsion Broadcast of the broadway musical with Mary Martin as Peter Pan, Hook, and now Finding Neverland.

4) After I had clocked out one night and was roaming around the store without my Hastings gear, some elderly lady ran up to me and said, "Quick! Ms. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy! What's the name of that movie?" and I said, "Pride and Prejudice?" and she punched her fist in the air and yelled, "YES! I KNEW YOU WOULD KNOW!" and then ran off.

Apparently there are people I can't see who follow me around with signs saying 'THIS GIRL LOVES JANE AUSTEN' or something. :D :D :D

5) In addiction to how epic my job already is, one night my friends Brittany, Christine, Lauren, and I were all working at the same time. It was EPICER THAN EPIC.

6) I haven't posted here about my tattoo yet, but I'll go ahead and share this story. A girl I was checking noticed it and asked if it was from T.S. Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." When I said that it was indeed, she replied, "So, since you obviously have good taste, can I complain to you about Twilight?" And thus we had a whole discussion about why Twilight is the worst thing to happen to literature.

My job is the best. You should all be jealous. :D
